DOMAINE ET FONDATION DE COUBERTIN
Domaine de Coubertin is divided into a château, a hamlet with seminar facilities and a 30-hectare wooded park.
The Fondation de Coubertin has made this prestigious estate its headquarters and the conservatory for its collections, divided into three areas. Firstly, the classical 17th-century château, the historic property of the de Coubertin family. Next, the hamlet with its 16th-century buildings, seminar rooms for cultural education and accommodation for up to 100 people. Finally, the 30-hectare wooded park, home to the Ateliers Saint-Jacques (metalwork, stone-cutting, carpentry) and the Fonderie for vocational training. The landscape is splendid. A triple avenue of century-old lime trees, an English-style park and the Parc des Sculptures are just a few of the attractions on offer. As for the Jardin des Bronzes, this will appeal to art lovers, with its sculptures dating from the mid-19th century to the present day by architect Robert Auzelle, complete with water features. The outdoor area is a great place to stroll for an hour and a half to two hours. After visiting the exhibitions, you're free to stroll around the park.
In the heart of the Vallée de Chevreuse, the Domaine is on the route de la véloscénie, with a cycle path in front of the château. The Domaine can be reached from the train station in just 10 minutes on foot along a footpath.
What's more, the Fondation trains people in manual trades to enhance Coubertin's art collections. Creative workshops are held in modeling, bas-relief and repoussé metal.
