Remains of the fortified castle that once dominated the Mérantaise valley: sections of wall, tower base, carved stones.
Located in the heart of the village, the last remains of the fortified castle that dominated the Mérantaise valley probably date from the late 11th or early 12th century. Severely damaged during the Hundred Years' War, the building was abandoned from the 18th century onwards. All that remains of the medieval fortress of Magny-l'Essart today are a few sections of wall made of large millstone rubble, the base of a tower (which once stood at around 20 m), and a few cut stones set on a mound in a private garden.
