LE CABARET DU LYS
In a small street of Chevreuse, formerly rue des Sablons, the number 3, of sober appearance, is one of the oldest houses on the street. In the th century, it was a cabaret very popular with one of our greatest playwrights: Jean Racine. In 1661, the author was in Chevreuse to monitor the work of the castle of Madeleine for his friend the Duke of Luynes; he would then regularly relax at Cabaret du Lys: " I go to the cabaret two or three times a day, "he wrote. After being in the th century Auberge de la Fleurs de Lis, then the Hotel du Lion d'Or, the room was then occupied by a cooper. Today, the sober building is a place of art exhibitions managed by the Association association. It is also the starting point of Jean-Racine Road linking the city and its castle at the Port Royal Abbey in Magny-les-Hamlets.
