The first large-scale project of the famous architect Le Corbusier, the Cité Frugès is classified as a historical monument.
Built in 1926 by Le Corbusier on commission from sugar industrialist Henry Frugès, this housing estate offers an innovative vision of architecture and social housing. Designed as a "cité-jardin" (garden city), the pavilion complex comprises 50 homes. Les quartiers modernes Frugès is both Le Corbusier's first social housing estate and his first large-scale project, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town of Pessac has acquired a skyscraper house, which has been converted into the Maison Frugès-Le Corbusier, and is open to visitors.
