This basilica, an emblem of Gothic architecture, is known as the final resting place of the kings and queens of France
Over the centuries, the basilica was built around the tomb of Saint Denis, martyred around 250 A.D. In addition to its crypt, the basilica, an emblem of Gothic architecture, is renowned for housing the tombs of the new kings of France. Since April 2025, visitors have been offered a new scenography: several tactile stations, accessible to young visitors, provide a better understanding of the site, and an animated film is shown in the nave.

Open all year round. Closed on January 1, May 1, November 1 and 11, December 25 and during certain religious services. Low season: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5:15pm; Sunday, 12pm to 5:15pm. High season: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6:15pm; Sunday, 12pm to 6:15pm. Access 30 minutes before closing time. Please note that exceptional opening times may apply throughout the year, depending on the calendar. Free admission for children under 18. Adults: €11. Full rates on line. Audioguide: €3.
