The Villeneuve-le-Comte Obelisk is located in the centre of the Carrefour de l'Obélisque, at the intersection of RD 231 and RN 36. This crossroads is the highest point of the Crecy forest (alt. 134 m). This monument was erected in 1735 to commemorate the meeting of Louis XV and the Duke of Brandenburg at the nearby hunting lodge. His bas-reliefs were vandalized during the Revolution. From a height of about 15 meters, it is surmounted by a terrestrial globe where waves, lightning and a double helix representing solar radiation are combined. Symbolism thus announces the destruction of the world by water and fire.
