There was a skating rink where since 1891 this hall has been named New theatre. The actor and director Lugné-Poë, the future founder of the theatre of the Works, is the founder. He defends Scandinavian authors like Ibsen and Strindberg, as well as Jarry, including Ubu King and here created with San Gémier in the title role in 1896. The actress Réjane bought the room in 1906 and gave her his name. She creates here Mrs. Sans-Gêne, from Victorian Sardou. It is when Léon Volterra resumes the place in 1918 that the current name is assigned to him. Marius and Fanny, by Marcel Pagnol, with Raimu, Orane Demazis and Pierre Fresnay, were triumphs in 1929 and 1931, respectively. Another success: Tovaritch, from Jacques Deval with Elvire Popesco. In 1955, this famous actress will take over from Marcel Karssenty and Pierre Dux who have been running the hall since 1948. From 1990, the stars are almost on the scene of this place: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Michel Sardou, Valérie Lemercier, Guy Bedos, Alain Delon, Robert Hossein, Gérard Depardieu, Bernard Tapie, Michel Leeb, Jean Piat…
