MAISON DE LA PRASLINE MAZET
The Maison de la Prasline Mazet has not been on the street since the closing of the Victor-Hugo Avenue in 2010. This montargoise confectionery took almost two years to find and develop a new address identified among others thanks to its bright yellow display. Inside the Japanese architect's party was to combine past, present and future: windows, antique furniture and French ceilings are perfectly aligned with the very clean shelves. New location, new packaging, new products and new concept. The boxes of macaroons, sugar, chocolates, small furnaces to dip in a chocolate fondue are made up of the famous grilled almond kernels which make the reputation of the house since 1913.

Ah, what a rare gem this place is—a coffee shop that truly innovates! They’ve gone beyond the usual Parisian arrogance and created a whole new art form: hostility. I arrived with a simple dream: sip on good coffee, nibble on cake, and get a little work done before a meeting. But alas, my laptop—a vile, offensive object, apparently—was declared persona non grata by the manager.
The announcement came with a delivery so condescending, it made me question my own Parisian credentials. I mean, I thought I knew what arrogance was, but this place really raised the bar. Not a single sign at the entrance about their bizarre anti-laptop stance, but don’t worry—they’ll lovingly ambush you once you’re seated and settled.
As a final flourish, they insisted I pay for the untouched cake. Bravo! Not only do they reject your technology, but they’ll also extort you for the privilege of leaving hungry. Truly, a masterclass in customer disservice. If you’re looking for a café where you can feel unwelcome, unproductive, and overcharged, look no further.
0/10 – would rather sit on a park bench.
