Built in 1866, this-seat room was successively named Les Menus Plaisirs, Théâtre des Arts, La Comédie Paris. In 1888, the young André Antoine grabbed it to make it the Free Theatre, a place where ambitious and innovative authors can see their texts being presented to the public. Ibsen, Tolstoy, Strindberg, Tourgueniev, the Goncourt, Zola, Claudel are those. He also invented new methods of staging on the natural environment. For financial reasons, he left his theatre in 1894. After a passage to the direction of the Théâtre de l'Odéon, he returned in 1897 in this room which then takes his name. In 1910, Gémier created the national touring theatre and led the troupe of the theatre Antoine on the roads of France, and then during the war helped to organize the theatre to the armies. In 1943, it was Simone Berriau's turn to lead the room. She finds in Jean-Paul Sartre an author to defend. During the 1960 s, we witnessed the theatre Antoine in the creations of L'Idiot - Annie Girardot, Jean-Pierre Kassel -, Turlututu - Robert Lamoureux -, Machin-Owl - Jean Richard, Robert Dhéry… In 1984, Simone Berriau left the theater Antoine to which he was named. Daniel Darès and Héléna Bossis take his succession. La Maillan, Lamoureux and Dorin are still loyal to the room, where Denise Grey can also be seen in Harold and Maud, Colin Higgins… The long history of the theater Antoine is not ready to stop!

Le Cercle des poètes disparus. Superbe adaptation, acteurs remarquables.
