At the location of the Jeanne d'Arc institution was the "small castle from the bottom", a building serving Queen Henriette's English guards. In the middle of the th century, a foundation led by the sisters of Providence of Portieux was created by Baron Le Roy, the last owner of the small castle, De Island. During the first World War, the buildings were made available to the Red Cross, which installed a military hospital there.
