Grand Prix de Rome in 1899 and pioneer of modern architecture, Tony Garnier, assisted by Jacques Debate-Ponsan, conceived the city hall in close liaison with Mayor André Morizet. Its location symbolizes the reunification of the north and south of the city. It will be built in four years from 1931 to 1934. It consists of two fixed parallélépipèdes in the sense of length. The first consists of the Council Room, the reception rooms and the office of the mayor and its deputies, the second being the administrative services. The rooms are beautifully decorated. The interior hall, with its majestic appearance, is illuminated by the zenith, where its nickname of the Cathedral of Light.
