Little known to the general public, the observatory in Rouen is nevertheless a true monument which has had all its importance in French astronomy during the last century! Founded in 1884 by Ludovic Gully, professor of mathematics in Rouen, the observatory was used to photograph the passage of Halley’s comet in 1910 or the solar eclipse of 1912. Today the place receives the public free of charge on the 1st Saturday of each month and opens according to important events (eclipses, Nuits des étoiles). A must for young and old alike.
