House designed to preserve and showcase the two barracks of the Philipp Morris transit camp.
The Maison du Patrimoine et des Cités provisoires, inaugurated on 8 May 2019, aims to preserve and enhance two barracks of the "Philipp Morris" transit camp built by the American army on the Gonfreville plateau in 1945. 35,000 soldiers were stationed there. After their departure in 1947, the inhabitants replaced them in these barracks. Today, one is dedicated to the history of the camp and the temporary housing estates, the other to life in the 1960s.

Bookings required on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am-5pm, and on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Open house Wednesday and Saturday, 2pm to 5:30pm. Free admission. Guided tours.

The Maison du Patrimoine et des Cités Provisoires is a museum located in Gonfreville-l'Orcher. A visit to this address will enable you to learn more about life in the post-war cités d'urgence. Set up on the site of a disused American military camp, they took in disaster victims from Le Havre. You'll discover models, as well as audio and video testimonials. The museum also features a reconstruction of a 1960s dwelling to immerse you in past history. A destination for an immersive and original experience!
