Church, one of the oldest foundations in Gironde, inspired by the basilica structure and a monastic destination
Legend has it that St. Martin's Church was founded by Charlemagne in 781 and was probably originally intended as a monastery, inspired by the basilica structure. This church, listed on the Rand des Monuments Historiques, is certainly one of the oldest foundations in the Gironde. The church preserves a richly decorated wooden pulpit for preaching, dating from the 17th century; the only furniture to have escaped the destruction caused by the collapse of the vault.
