Grétais Abbey with a rich cultural programme, offering guided tours with the owners of the site.
A magical place and history! This ancient abbey was founded by Herluin de Conteville and his wife Arlette (mother of William the Conqueror, buried here) around 1050 following a dream. Suffering from a serious skin disease, Herluin dreamt of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin led him to a fountain to purify himself. The abbey was then built in homage to Notre-Dame. Keeping alive the memory of Arlette and Herluin is the mission of the site's owners, thanks in particular to a rich cultural program of guided tours, conferences...
