Abbatiale, witness to Romanesque art in Normandy and Bernay’s jewel, home to the town hall, museum and court.

It’s one of Bernay’s greatest treasures. Built in the 11th century, the abbey’s architecture is typical of the pioneering Romanesque style in Normandy. Not to be missed is the beautiful series of capitals sculpted with plant motifs, figures and monsters. The monument was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. Since the French Revolution, it has ceased to be a monastery. Today, the monastery buildings house the town hall, the municipal museum and the courthouse. The apse and chapter house are part of the museum tour.

Déception, abbaye fermée le 18 février à 16h. Ce serait utile et la moindre des choses que vous mettiez à jour les fermetures. 1h30 de route pour rien... inadmissible !

Visite pendant un petit salon, endroit clair et lumineux dommage que nous n ayons pas pris le temps de vraiment profiter de l endroit, tellement c un congélateur, fermer les portes et faire passer les visiteurs par la salle des fêtes aurait été une très bonne idée... Conseil gratuit aux organisateurs.
