MAISON DE LA HAUTE SEILLE
Museum housing audiovisual documents on the history of Château-Chalon and the valley's villages
In the heart of this village, which has been awarded the "Plus Beau Village de France" and "Cité de Caractère de Bourgogne Franche-Comté" labels, the "Froid Pignon" house is the former guesthouse of the Château-Chalon abbey. Highlights include the listed 16th-century shell-shaped roof structure, and a remarkable vaulted cellar. Above all, this Maison de la Haute Seille houses (on three levels) a fascinating museum showcasing life in the region, as well as its treasure: yellow wine. On the second level, don't miss the panoramic terrace overlooking the valley. In addition, regular events present the region's history, while in the cellar you can test your "nose" and taste the famous Jura nectar. All this, just after visiting the old-fashioned school, also housed in this unique Maison.
In 2024, from May to October, the Maison de la Haute Seille is also offering a temporary exhibition entitled "L'arbre qui chante", an artistic journey that takes visitors through the village streets, the garden and the museum. It's an opportunity to reflect on the symbolism of the tree through different artistic axes. Finally, don't hesitate to browse the shelves of the museum store. You'll discover the work of numerous local producers and artisans. Delicatessen, regional products, jewelry, postcards... the choice is wide!
