BATH FORGES
A forge with 25 workers producing iron and cast iron for the major cities.
A pearl of the Franc-Comtois industrial heritage, created in the 16th century. Today's superb buildings date from the 18th century. In the heyday of industry, one hundred and twenty workers produced iron and cast iron for the major cities. In the 19th century, due to water and wood shortages, iron and coal production declined. The forge came to a halt around 1820, and the blast furnace went out around 1870. Today, an association brings the site to life, organizing tours, exhibitions and other events.
