MAISON FORTE DE REIGNAC
A listed site, this troglodytic stronghold house, set against a cliff, once overlooked the Vézère and kept watch over the river.
The troglodytic fortified house is a unique and astonishing site. Our ancestors already occupied the site 20,000 years ago, then a refuge was built in the rock with underground and overhead rooms, and finally a castle with a hall of honor, weapons room, bedroom, salon, chapel... and also a dungeon and oubliettes. This fortification features defensive elements as well as decorative aspects, such as the furniture on display in the Countess's bedroom and the grand salon. Permanent exhibition on inquisition and torture in the Middle Ages.
