The first occupation of the site by a castle was confirmed in the th century. It was destroyed during a fire in the 10 th century during the-year war. Then in the th century, a fort was erected to create a defensive centre for the city of Besançon. Today, there are only a few remnants of the medieval dungeon and its foot of the vaulted cellars and some walls of issuing. However, it is the subject of extensive restoration work.
