It's hard to separate Montbéliarde cows from the bells they wear around their necks! This tradition is part of the rural heritage of the Franche-Comté region. Bell-making is the fruit of an ancestral know-how that is maintained by two foundries in France! And it's here in the Haut-Doubs region, in Labergement-Sainte-Marie, that one of them has been operating since 1834! At the Obertino foundry, you can even watch the metal being poured and the bells being removed from the mould.
