THE NATIONAL PALACE
Go there and contact
This national palace is a former residence of Genoese representatives, converted into the headquarters of the Centre de Recherches corses.
Built in the 16th century, the Palais National is the only vestige of Genoese civil architecture in Corte. It was in this former residence of Genoese representatives that Pasquale Paoli established the seat of government of independent Corsica from 1755 to 1768. For a long time, the first floor of the building was used as a prison, a function that continued until the end of the 19th century. With the re-establishment and inauguration of a new university in Corte in 1981, the Palais National became the headquarters of the Corsican Research Center.
