DIANA'S POND
The Etang de Diana, Corsica's aquaculture mecca, famous since antiquity for its oyster production
Known since Antiquity, it is still today the Mecca of aquaculture in Corsica. The Romans were fond of shellfish, and Corsican oysters were renowned and exported to Rome. Traces of their oyster farming can still be seen in the "îlot des pêcheurs" (fishermen's islet), which was formed from the fossilization of oyster shells heaped there! With a surface area of 570 ha, this pond is the third largest in Corsica. Oysters are grown here, of course, but also mussels and clams, which can be bought or tasted on site.
