Tuilières hydroelectric dam with elevator for migratory fish, part of our industrial heritage.
Built in the early 20th century, this dam was one of the first major hydraulic structures on the Dordogne. Now classified as an industrial heritage site, it had to be adapted to preserve aquatic life. The original fish ladder never worked, so EDF devised an ingenious fish elevator: a tank captures migratory fish, such as salmon, and releases them upstream. A feat that enables them to return to their birthplace to reproduce.

Le site est impressionnant, bien documenté (panneaux explicatifs clairs) mais ne vs attendez pas à voir beaucoup de poissons "prendre l'ascenseur", cela dépend de la saison et d'un peu de chance, tout de même...Donc les plus petits peuvent être déçus mais c'est une visite originale qui peut être couplée avec celle d'une salle de l'usine EDF qui explique le fonctionnement du site...
