Tuilières hydroelectric dam with elevator for migratory fish, part of our industrial heritage.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Tuilières hydroelectric dam was one of the first hydraulic installations to be built on the Dordogne. Today, the site is part of our industrial heritage. The original fish ladder never worked, so EDF had to devise an elevator adapted to migratory fish such as salmon: a tank captures them and discharges them upstream of the dam. This enables the fish to return to their birthplace to reproduce.

Le site est impressionnant, bien documenté (panneaux explicatifs clairs) mais ne vs attendez pas à voir beaucoup de poissons "prendre l'ascenseur", cela dépend de la saison et d'un peu de chance, tout de même...Donc les plus petits peuvent être déçus mais c'est une visite originale qui peut être couplée avec celle d'une salle de l'usine EDF qui explique le fonctionnement du site...
