Cutlery in a modern building, professionals perpetuate the making of the Nontron knife, the town's pride and joy.

The Nontron knife is the pride of the people of Nontron. It is recognizable by its flies (the inverted V and the three dots) which adorn its blond boxwood handle. The first master cutler set up his workshop in Nontron in 1653. Since then, the knife is still made by hand. The blade of the closing models in 440 stainless steel is in the shape of a sage leaf, the boxwood handles end in a hoof, a ball or a carp tail. The flies have been talked about for a long time, nothing officially explains them and several hypotheses always relay the legend: from a drawing of Moorish origin, to a religious symbol, passing by the Masonic compasses, their mystery contributes partly to the success of these knives. The factory is located in a modern building - stainless steel and wood are combined to symbolize the materials that make up the knife - where you can discover the production process behind glass. About fifteen professionals perpetuate this age-old know-how and each knife is made from A to Z by its assembler. The "art of the table" range was created in collaboration with designers, and combines ancestral knowledge with contemporary aesthetic trends. Christian Ghion, is the creator, among others, of the TD knife, awarded the first prize of the TADI (Trophée Aquitains du Design Industriel). 60,000 to 70,000 knives are produced each year by the cutlery factory, which has the Entreprise Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label.

30 minutes top chrono

En effet, il y a une vue sur les ateliers et quelques panneaux d explications, mais la visite n'a pas vraiment d'intéret si on ne souhaite pas acheter des couteaux.
