Explore the Grotte du Grand Roc, an underground treasure shaped by time, where stalactites and crystals create an enchanting setting

The Grotte du Grand Roc, located on a steep cliff overlooking the Vézère river, was discovered in 1924 by Jean Maury and opened to the public in 1927. This exceptional natural site offers guided tours lasting around 40 minutes, enabling visitors to discover 1,000 m² of breathtaking crystallizations. The main hall, with its low ceiling, is packed with stalactites, stalagmites and other fascinating mineral formations, such as pendulas, fistulas, gours, calcite triangles and coral-like eccentrics. These rare, multicolored crystallizations are the result of mineral particles deposited over time, creating a veritable underground jewel. The tour immerses you in the history of the Earth, with a panoramic view of the Vézère valley at the exit, adding an even more magical dimension to the experience. For the more inquisitive, night-time visits by storm lamp are organized in summer, offering an even more mystical atmosphere. And don't miss a visit to the Abris de Laugerie Basse, another iconic prehistoric site just a stone's throw from the cave. The Grotte du Grand Roc, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979, is one of fifteen prehistoric sites and decorated caves in the Vézère valley. It is the only cave with concretions in the region to benefit from this international recognition, which testifies to its importance. A gem not to be missed!
