Les Grottes de Maxange, a treasure trove of eccentric crystals expertly displayed.
The Maxange caves were discovered in August 2000 by Angel Caballero, while working in his quarry. More than 3,000m3 of earth had to be extracted to make them accessible. Opened to the public in summer 2003, the caves are easily accessible. A treasure trove of eccentric crystals has led to the site being classified by the government as a World Heritage Site. The formidable concentration of matte and translucent calcite concretions is subtly enhanced by the use of the latest lighting and sound technologies.
