This promenade along the Vienne River, shaded by plane trees, is located on the site of the former port of La Parerie, which was the most important port in Chinon. An inclined plane from the Vienne River communicated with the Place des Foires et des Marchés, today's Place Jeanne d'Arc, allowing the rapid transport of goods arriving by boat.
