From the door William and his barbacane, there are only a few ruins. In this case, you will tell me why? Well, simply because having surveyed the chartraine population, the municipality decided to rebuild this medieval building with the means of the day. But before, place the archaeological digs. Since August 2010, barbacane has already delivered many of its secrets to medievalists archaeologists… And it's not over. It was on the night of 15 to 16 August 1944, on the approach of the American armies that liberated the city, that the Germans destroyed this magnificent fortification book in their flight. In 2011, the tourist office organized guided tours of the history of Guillaume's door. Maybe they will be renewed in 2012… Find out more!

Belle balade dans Chartres
Autour de ces vestiges, belle balade à faire à proximité du bord de l'eau et du vieux Chartres.
