Carnival is traditionally celebrated on all the Balearic islands just before the start of the Lenten period.
Carnival is traditionally held on all the Balearic islands just before the start of the Lenten period. In Palma de Mallorca, the carnival is certainly the most important: the traditional celebrations begin on Shrove Thursday and last for the whole weekend, with concerts, dance shows and costumed parades! It is customary for the festival to end on Ash Wednesday with the "burial of the sardine", the symbol of Carnival, marking the beginning of spring and a new cycle of life!
