This bicycle store on the edge of Monona Lake, close to the Monona Convention Center, has invested the long brick block of Machinery Row, formerly used as a place of sale for agricultural equipment and is now on the historical buildings registry of the city of Madison. Bikes can be rented from Monona lake (about 16 km away) on the bicycle path that goes next door. On the other hand, the Tour Lake tower is more difficult: we must borrow roads frequented by cars.

Bus and coach

Jefferson Lines bus company provides connections to Madison (3 hours), Milwaukee (4 hours) and Chicago (7 hours). In La Crosse, it picks up and drops off passengers at the Bus Depot, located at 314 Jay Street, about a ten-minute walk from the city's tourist office. The prices charged are more or less the same as at Greyhound, Jefferson Lines' main competitor in the Midwest. The buses are comfortable and usually have wifi and outlets. The vehicles are also equipped with restrooms.

WASHINGTON ISLAND FERRY

Airline and services

This ferry connects Washington Island to the city of Northport. During the long summer days in July and August, service is provided every half hour between the island and the mainland. Departures are more sporadic during the other months of the year, but whatever happens, there are connections every day. Remember to keep an eye on the time of the last boat, otherwise you'll have to play Robinson Crusoe and stay on the island. Don't worry, there's a campsite. It is possible to travel with a vehicle, which costs a small supplement.

Milwaukee International Airport, Mitchell Field Airport, is located 12 km south of downtown. It is the largest airport in Wisconsin. All major American companies are represented. Founded in 1914 in neighboring Minnesota, Greyhound is the nation's leading bus company. It serves all major American cities. The buses are very modern and well-equipped, they usually have wifi as well as toilets in the back of the vehicle. It is best to book your trip in advance on the website, to make sure you get a seat at the time you want and to save a few dollars. FYI, in Milwaukee, buses stop at the Intermodal Station. There are several departures each day.

LAKE EXPRESS

The Lake Express takes you from Milwaukee to the city of Muskegon, Michigan, in two and a half hours on the opposite shore of the lake in a 50-meter motor catamaran with a capacity for forty-six cars and two hundred and fifty passengers. During the summer season, there are three round trips per day (departures at 6:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. from Milwaukee), and two in the spring and fall (departures at 6:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. from Milwaukee). The return trip is about half the price of the outbound trip if you order both at the same time.

GARE FERROVIAIRE AMTRAK

Train

The Hiawatha line operates six to seven times daily. It departs from Chicago's Union Station and drops you off right in downtown Milwaukee, near 5th Street and the lake. The journey time is an hour and a half, and you avoid the stress of traffic on the major highways. From Chicago, you can take connections to five hundred American cities if you wish. The legendary Empire Builder line leaves Chicago and winds its way through Milwaukee to Seattle (for a total journey time of 46 hours!).
