In terms of gastronomy, the menu doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary, but simple, comforting fare: nothing better to recover from a hard day's vacation. You'll come for the family atmosphere at the end of the day and the romantic ambience in the evening.

This restaurant - the best on the island - is a little more sophisticated than a typical taverna and enjoys a truly enchanting setting, at the end of the bay of Agia Marina, near the old mill. You'll be seated facing the sea, overlooking the harbor and the castle. Excellent seafood platters and superb fresh fish dishes are served. Try the sea urchin, octopus carpaccio and fish tartar of the day. Special mention must be made of the highly specialized wine list. In the evening, it's best to book ahead, as the place is very popular.

Nestled on the seafront, this delightful restaurant is located at the end of the bay of Pera Gialos. The view of the horizon and the Venetian fortress is splendid. In terms of cuisine, the menu is refined, prepared with research and finesse. Freshly caught fish from the in-house caique are exceptionally well cooked (ask for the price of the animal before ordering to avoid unexpectedly high bills), but all the dishes on offer are well worth the detour.

A pleasant location, especially in the evening, with views of the illuminated Venetian castle overlooking the tranquil bay of Livadia. Also very pleasant during the day, between swims at the beach. You'll find great grilled calamari and other Greek classics here, as well as local specialties such as Astipalaia risotto, served with surprises from the morning's catch. At lunchtime, you can also enjoy a tyropita (cheese pastry) and a fresh salad, while watching the waves roll in and out.

Located in the heart of the village, set back from the sea, this family tavern spreads its tables on a pretty terrace and a flowered inner courtyard. You will eat here the typical cuisine of Greek taverns: no surprises on the menu with all the classics in terms of meat, vegetables and mezzedes. The chef buys his fresh fish from Nikos, the fisherman from Tilos, of course. Choose the beast of the day in the fridge at the entrance. Good grills and the traditional goat or goat stew with lemon are also available.

This tavern located on the pier of the small port is particularly enjoyable in the evening: the view of Nissiros and the setting sun is fabulous. We enjoy the lapping waves on the few fishing boats moored there, we sit under the garlands hanging from the trees and order a good beer before attacking a fresh fish, brought back by another fisherman from the area. The lemon goat cheese, cooked for hours, is also excellent. During the day, we like to come and have a cold drink before or after a hike in the area.

Unfortunately, this address is sometimes a little victim of its success in high season: you will have to be patient because the servers can be overwhelmed and the service slowed down. Dimitri and Flora, the owners of this tasty restaurant, have settled in one of the oldest captain's houses in Lindos. The building dates back to the very early 17th century: admire the traditional pebble mosaic floors. The restaurant has a good location: opt for an outdoor table on the terrace overlooking the citadel and the acropolis. It's so romantic! Traditional flavours, seafood dishes and fresh local fish. Excellent homemade desserts too, and a very good wine list.

Thin-crust pizzas are baked to perfection, and pasta dishes will satisfy hearty appetites looking for something other than traditional Greek cuisine. You'll also find a wide variety of Italian charcuterie. All served in a friendly, unpretentious family atmosphere. The portions are generous and the produce is fresh - what more could you ask for? Undeniably one of the best addresses in the area, especially with the younger crowd.

We come to this good inn to eat, drink, chat, snack, listen to music and certainly have a good time. The dishes are really delicious and the choice is varied: there is the whole range of Greek cuisine. We come here in the morning to have coffee and breakfast (tasty bougatsa), and we stay there until late in the evening to share mezzedes (very good honey feta cheese) or more elaborate dishes. Small addition, the establishment has a few rooms on the first floor, pretty and very comfortable.

This beach restaurant was recently opened on the headland of the famous Anthony Quinn Bay. People come here to share mezzedes with a view, to take a coffee break in the shade between swims or to sip a cocktail at the end of the day. The location is idyllic, of course, but the cuisine is no slouch either, remaining above average compared to other establishments of its kind with the same trendy, boho chic look.

There are fewer than 30 year-round residents in Vati, fortunately untouched by the fires of 2023: Kostas and Toula have been offering delicious, traditional, high-quality cuisine for many years. We come here off the beaten track and away from mass tourism to enjoy a quiet lunch. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and the dishes are prepared with taste and simplicity, without hiding behind superficial frills. Just ask for the katsikaki, a delicious kid with lemon. Vegetarians will be delighted too. Everything is homemade!

This chic, luxurious restaurant offers top-notch Mediterranean and Greek cuisine, admittedly more expensive than the average in Lindos (itself inflated in the village's restaurants due to the influx of tourists), but well worth it for the quality of the dishes and ingredients on offer. You'll appreciate the sober decor, which gives way to the traditional architecture of the whole place: the pebble mosaic floors are magnificent, as are the views over the rooftops. Reservations are essential if you want a table after 6pm.

That's right, here you can order your raw fish the Tilos way, not for the mastery of Japanese technique, but for the freshness of the fish! Good seafood dishes too.

To reach it, leave the main road at around Camel Beach or arrive from the plateau of Kefalos, the upper town. The solitary landscapes you pass through offer 360° views of the Aegean. At the end of the road, this small restaurant specializes in seafood and fish, which are very cheap here. Very pleasant for a break in the shade during the day, or to enjoy the sunset in the evening.

A very subtle play on words for this establishment, which specializes in souvlaki... in Lakki, hence Souvlakki! Whether it makes you laugh or not, the main thing is the delicious grills, kebabs and gyros you can enjoy here, set right on the bay. The service is friendly, the prices are low and the quality of the meat is top-notch. Vegetarians will be happy to pass, but lovers of grilled or roasted meat will be delighted with a light snack or a more substantial meal, including sets to share.

This traditional kafeneio has been installed in the New Market since 1946. Today, it has been taken over by the granddaughter of the original owner, who has given new life and dynamism to this historic establishment. We like to come and sit in the shade to have a good breakfast in the morning (omelettes, toasts) over an iced coffee, waiting for the arrival of the day's fishing. The extra-fresh small fish are grilled or fried for lunch and are simply served with a little fava or eggplant caviar. That's what happiness is all about after all!

This café-restaurant has been a Krithoni Bay institution for many years. The cuisine here is entirely vegan or vegetarian, prepared with care and attention to detail. Locals gather here for a coffee or a drink, as do tourists, all in a relaxed and very pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the road right in front spoils the fun a little, but if you're lucky, you'll be able to sit with your feet in the water on the few tables set up on a small stretch of beach shaded by large tamarisk trees.

The hotel's rooms are simple but pleasant, but the tavern is well known throughout the island for its generous and tasty traditional cuisine, prepared with Leros products and respecting certain local recipes. In summer, this vast terrace restaurant hosts concerts three times a week, of the highest quality. It's an opportunity to discover the Greek repertoire, and to dance along with the locals who flock here!

This taverna on the pretty bay of Kato Lefkos, or the lower town, has been delighting its loyal customers for years. The main attraction is the fresh fish, brought here daily by local fishermen. You can choose your fish in the kitchen, taking the time to confirm the price of the animal you have chosen, as the bill quickly rises with fresh fish, and prices are indicated per kilo and not per dish. Alternatively, you can opt for a nice grilled octopus, always a pleasure to enjoy with a view of the sea, in the splendid setting of Lefkos.

Lost in the small village of Avlona, this is the only tavern in the area. Run by a couple of local elders who are still very traditional, Kyria Anna's fresh, ultra-local cuisine is served here. She doesn't speak English, and doesn't offer a menu, just the dish of the day, which you'll discover as you eat. A 100% authentic guarantee, and old-fashioned cuisine prepared with local produce grown in the surrounding countryside. Just a dozen or so people live here year-round, so you're sure to be immersed in a world of yesteryear!

This restaurant is one of the must-visit spots in the port of Gialos. You can enjoy a delicious menu of traditional dishes right on the seafront. In the evening, the tables are packed: reservations are essential to enjoy the view over Gialos Bay and the succulent dishes. It's a family-run business, and you'll appreciate the warm, intimate atmosphere and warm welcome. The house also offers a few rooms for rent upstairs, which are simple but pleasant, and offer very good value for money for Symi.

Overlooked by the rock of the Acropolis, this beach establishment spreads out its tables and deckchairs over the small bay of Saint-Paul, south of Lindos. The village of Apollona lies about halfway between Eleoussa and Prophitis Ilias, about 10-15 minutes by car, below the forest mountain.
