Pisa's main train station serves most major Tuscan towns (Grosseto, Lucca, Livorno, Volterra, Cecina...) and Italian cities (Turin, Milan, Rome...). Trains leave every 30 minutes for Florence Santa Maria Novella (an hour and a half journey). The main bus stops are in the square opposite the station.

If you're travelling by car,near the station, you can leave your vehicle in the pay parking lot in piazza Vittorio Emanuele II (€4/hour, sometimes with special offers in summer).

Five minutes walk from the famous ramparts, the small railway station of Lucca is located on the Viareggio - Florence line and is the terminus of the lines to Pisa and Aulla. It is operated exclusively by regional trains (the most important station in the province of Lucca is located in Viareggio).

Santa Maria Novella (SMN) is the main railway station of Florence. It is located northwest of the historic center, in the eponymous Santa Maria Novella district. A dense network of buses allows you to travel from the station to all the neighborhoods, but also to the surrounding cities (shuttle to/from the airport of Pisa in particular). The station is also served by the T1 and T2 streetcar lines (the recent T2 line provides a direct link with the airport).

Connections between the Siena railway station (stazione), located two kilometres from the historic centre, and the Piazza del Sale on buses Nos. 3, 4, 8 and 17 (allow a good five minutes). Every day, more than thirty direct trains (Florence-Empoli-Siena railway line) connect Siena to Florence, Santa Maria Novella station. The first train to Florence leaves Siena at 5am, and the last one at 9.30pm. The average travel time is one hour. Count three hours from Rome, less than two hours from Pisa, and nearly an hour and a half from Grosseto.

Located to the east of the Santa Croce district, and served by busesnos. 10, 12, 13 and 20, the Firenze-Campo Marte railway station is mainly used by travelers coming to Florence from the surrounding countryside or southern Italy. It is also particularly useful for those wishing to get to the Artemio Franchi stadium, where concerts and soccer matches are regularly held. Conveniently, every ten minutes there's a scheduled connection to the Santa Maria Novella (SMN) central station.
