Archaeology handicrafts and science and technology sites to visit Basque Country

It is a small island located just opposite the beach at Karraspio. It is accessible on foot, but only when the tide is low. Previously, Garraitz housed a hermitage dedicated to Saint-Nicolas.

Sopuerta is known for its two calcination kilns of ore built in the early XX < sup > th < /sup > century. Objects of curiosity today, they remind us that the region was always rich in fer. < br/>

This cave has impressive stalactites and remains of paintings dating back to the paleolithic age. The access is limited to the researchers, but you can see a reproduction of the museum of Encartaciones of Abellaneda (in Sopuerta).

Below Zumaia, this beach is one of the most spectacular on the Basque coast, with its large vertical cliffs and limestone walls that reach a height of 150 metres. The geological phenomenon known as flysch, which is the result of a thousand-year-old erosion, has shaped the rock into impressive groins. The site is so singular that it was used as the setting for the Game of Thrones series. At the top of the cliffs, the small chapel of San Telmo is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors. The inhabitants of the village go there in procession every year, just after Easter.
