LA ORZA
Read moreJust a stone's throw from the Museo Greco, this is a very good address. You'll find a warm, rustic yet chic setting for lomo de la Orza (pig's tenderloin), Toleban-style partridge, cod brandade with fried bacon, tender venison fillet with potato emulsion and mango sauce and, for dessert, mazapan custard. There's also a terrace to enjoy the fine weather. Perhaps you'll run into the mayor of Toledo, as the local political class is always on hand!
FIGÓN DEL HUÉCAR
Read moreHoused in a typical perched house, this contemporary and elegant restaurant offers a splendid view of the Hoz del Huécar, both from its lounges with large windows and from its terrace. And if the setting is really superb, you can also enjoy excellent cuisine, which has won numerous gastronomic awards, and which gives pride of place to the specialities of the region. Roast suckling pig, shoulder of lamb, fried eggs with truffles or cod brandade with mango are all on the menu. Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in the city.
RESTAURANTE MANILA
Read moreIn the beautiful brick vaulted rooms of the Palais Palace, the midday menu changes every day and offers two choices, a dessert and a drink.
EL CHULETERO
Read moreVery good meat with fire.
LA LUDEÑA
Read moreHere, it is not great cuisine, but an option of choice to enjoy tapas in an authentic atmosphere. If it is sometimes necessary to play elbows to get to the bar, that the service can be a little average, we eat there for a good price-quality ratio. If you want to taste the local speciality, Carcamusas (made from pork, tomatoes and chickpeas) by those who almost invented it, don't hesitate to visit this small tavern. It's okay, it's cheap and the locals are rushing in. That's a good sign!
POSADA DE SAN JOSÉ
Read moreIn this former 17th century college, which also houses a charming hotel, people eat very well and at very affordable prices. The menu includes all the regional specialities such as Morteruelo Conquense (a typical Cuenca dish made from game)or the different variants for tasting cod (including an excellent garlic cod). The restaurant is pleasant, but if there is still room, you should prefer the small terrace which offers superb views of the cliffs (it is reserved primarily for hotel guests).
RESTAURANTE ADOLFO
Read moreThis 14th century building - with its refined atmosphere and décor - offers a choice address that celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019. On the plate, you can enjoy traditional Castilian cuisine with a hint of new cuisine: veal snout with seasonal mushrooms, egg yolk and truffle, judias con perdiz (white beans with red partridge from Toledo)... The products are very well crafted, of high quality and the wine list is impressive. Let the sommelier guide you. A beautiful evening in perspective.
ASADOR MARIA MORENA
Read moreAsador Maria Morena is a pastel-coloured restaurant, which offers a few terraced tables and a panoramic view of the superb Cuenca valley. This is the promise of a good time at lunch or dinner in this beautiful establishment perched at the very top of the city. We particularly appreciated the bluefin tuna tataki as a starter, goat and fruit salad or rice with shrimp and garlic in the food section. The welcome can be a little fast in high season, but the price-quality ratio is quite good.
NÖLA
Read moreAfter having worked in the great restaurants of Catalonia and the Basque Country, Jorge Maestro and María Viqueira have opened this excellent restaurant where they revisit local products to offer a quality fusion menu. The patio is very pleasant and the rather modern decoration blends in perfectly with the Casa del Doncel, one of the beautiful medieval buildings in the city centre. A nice gastronomic discovery where you are welcomed with a smile. Very nice wine list and possible food and wine pairing.
EL TREBOL
Read moreA few steps from Place Zocodover, it is first of all the pretty terrace of this establishment that will catch your eye. Set in a small quiet street, this is a godsend for long sunny days. And what about the interior highlighting the remains of the first wall of Toledo? Beautiful. On the taste buds side, tapas, pulgas and raciones: de queso monte de Toledo, gambas à l'ail or pâté de partridge. This is enough to enjoy a good panorama of delicious tapas topped with a homemade beer. Service a little fast though.
RESTAURANTE ALFILERITOS 24
Read moreBoth a restaurant and a tapas bar, this establishment occupies a beautifully restored mansion in the historic center. The original setting offers tasty, well-presented market cuisine. The tapas tastings are well thought-out and the menu, with its more elaborate dishes and gastronomic touches, is a success. The tasting menu is a good option. While the place is charming, service can sometimes be a little brisk.
