TALIESIN ARTS CENTRE

Swansea's most avant-garde stage, in the heart of the university's Singleton campus. Open since 1984, it has been offering a wide-ranging program for over thirty years, with some fifty different live performances a year. There's a choice of theater, dance, musical performances, cinema (art-house oriented but not exclusively) and an art gallery (with an average of ten exhibitions a year). GRAND THEATRE

This renowned theater opened in July 1897, designed by Newcastle architect William Hope. It has two stages: the larger one is reserved for light plays and regularly hosts the Welsh National Opera. The other, smaller stage can accommodate up to 100 people, and is a place for artists to express themselves on their own terms. On their website, you'll find the program for the autumn/winter or spring/summer season, depending on when you visit. There's plenty of variety, ideal for families.

THREE TUNS

Hay-on-Wye's oldest house, after the castle, housed a very popular bar, but was the victim of a fire in 2005. Now fully restored, the bar has been modernised while remaining true to its spirit: rustic dark wooden furniture, exposed beams, a fireplace and a spacious restaurant create a pleasant and warm atmosphere. A beer garden is reserved for smokers. The establishment is also known for its Italian gastronomic restaurant (with vegan and vegetarian choices). Good value for money.

The Chapter Arts Centre is an arts center located in Canton, Cardiff, Wales. Opened in 1971, it offers a variety of shows and artistic events. The center has an auditorium and a café-bar. This nightclub boasts probably one of the most impressive buildings in the area: a former church on several levels, with a vast deep-blue dome at its center, studded with small golden stars. A pub of character, the locals' favourite. According to tradition, it was built in 1410, during the revolt of Owain Glyndwr, but it is more likely to date from the Elizabethan era. In 1970, the building showed some signs of old age and during the renovation of the roof, superb murals were discovered, representing, among others, two horned devils, the Passion of Christ... They are still visible today. You only have to ask to see them.
