ANJOU ROLLER DERBY

Team sports

This strange sport, which originated in the USA in the 1920s, arrived in Angers in 2012. It's mainly played by girls. The principle: two teams compete around an oval track, with a jammer (sprinter) completing laps to score points. The opposing team must block her path with their blockers, and her team-mates take charge of protecting her. Roller Derby is a physical, contact sport with a sexy rock feel. Highly regulated, it places great emphasis on the safety of its practitioners. Since 2014, the Intrépide Roller's Dérangées team has given way to the Douleur Angevine (entered in the French championship before Covid) of the Anjou Roller Derby association. Today more than 40 glide addicts train twice a week. Anjou Roller Derby is not only recruiting players, but also anyone wishing to get involved in the association, by refereeing for example! Spectacle guaranteed!
