Of course, rates vary greatly depending on the type of accommodation chosen. It will therefore not cost the same if you opt for a dormitory bed in a youth hostel rather than a suite in a 5-star hotel. In low season, you can find a nice room in an inn or hotel in a price range of $80 to $150 CAN, a rate that increases - and may even double or more in large cities - in high season or during major events. You should also be aware that accommodation is generally expensive in Toronto compared to neighbouring Ottawa and Montreal. And this applies to all types of accommodation.
It is also important to remember that the prices posted are always exclusive of taxes. In addition to the 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), there is also the hotel tax, which differs from city to city (for example, 4% of the price per night for Ottawa and Toronto). All methods of payment are accepted, but small hotels may limit themselves to cash, traveller's cheques and/or debit cards.

To be booked

As a popular destination, it is advisable to make reservations in Ontario, especially in the summer. Also, don't wait until the last minute to book if you plan to attend Canada Day in Ottawa or the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as hotels are sold out during these events. Of course, it's easier to get a last-minute reservation in the regions than in the city, except for major tourist destinations such as Sauble Beach, Tobermory and Wasaga Beach, where reservations are not a luxury.

Cottage is a true Ontario way of life and it's everywhere, whether it's in a national park, on an island or in a private wilderness resort. And Ontarians are just as charmed by log cabins as visitors who dream of their "cottage in Canada". There are also outfitters, those hunting, fishing and resort camps that number in the dozens across the province. Authentic all-inclusive wilderness experiences, they offer camping, inns, cottages and even unusual accommodations (houseboats, etc.). Then there's Toronto, which, like any large city of the same standing, has countless luxury hotels, most of which are located on the shores of Lake Ontario, in the heart of downtown and in the Yorkville district.

For food lovers

Breakfast is very often included in the price (or with a slight supplement) and, in town as well as in the region, regional products are legion. Many inns and hotels also host renowned restaurants featuring local cuisine, whether traditional or contemporary. And with many Aboriginal communities in the province, you can even treat yourself to a gourmet stay with an Amerindian flavour.

Smokers

Smoking is generally not permitted in hotel establishments, including on room balconies and terraces of hotel bars and restaurants. Smoking must also be kept away from the door of the establishment and its terraces (the law indicates 9 metres). Of course, depending on the type of accommodation, there may be some exceptions: it is often possible to smoke on the balcony or in the courtyard of a Bed & Breakfast and some hotels even allow smoking in the room, but this is very rare.
