HÔTEL DE VILLE DE CAEN
Read moreThe town hall took its place in the premises of the Malherbe high school in 1961, after the latter had moved into more modern and much larger buildings a few hundred meters away, towards the Prairie. The school itself was installed at the end of the 19th century in the Abbey of Men, a superb architectural masterpiece built in the Middle Ages by William the Conqueror. Romanesque and Gothic in style, it has been listed as a historical monument for almost two centuries. It is no coincidence that it is one of the most beautiful town halls in France! Take the time to stop and appreciate the panorama it offers. The administrative services of the city and the offices of the elected officials are located here. The sumptuous wooden wedding hall is also located in the main building. Please note that the civil status services are in an annex building, accessible from the Aile des Jardins. Please also note that the switchboard number can be reached 24 hours a day to answer all questions relating to administrative matters. Emergency calls are transferred to the municipal police between 8pm and 8am as well as on Sundays and holidays.

In May 2006, EDF decided, after four months of public consultations, to construct the first EPR-type French nuclear reactor. The site called Flamanville 3 is located on the same name. The new reactor incorporates the return of experience of nearly 30 years'operation of nuclear power plants by EDF. Its performance will be increased in all areas: reduced by at least 30% of the releases to the environment by Mw produced, reducing the quantity of radioactive waste by 30% compared with the current 1350 megawatt reactors, reducing by a factor of 10 of the risk of serious accidents already extremely low on current reactors, a production of 1650 megawatt (or the consumption value of a region of Picardy size).
Almost 650 employees EDF currently operates the Flamanville nuclear power plant. Thanks to its two 1350 megawatt reactors, it produces an average of 18 billion kilowatt hours per year. During construction, the most intense peak of activity will see 2 500 professionals in action on the site of Flamanville 3. In 2012, EDF employees will operate the new production unit.
