Budget & Tips
When it comes to the pleasures of swimming, there's no need to head for the pools, as the ocean is at your disposal. There are often delightful natural pools, which can be reached at low tide and make lovely paddling pools, even for toddlers. It's also an opportunity to enjoy a wide range of water sports and board sports, including scuba diving, sailing, surfing and kitesurfing, especially on the windier islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. There are also balnearios, offering Atlantic tours for around 20 euros.
What's very local
You can also try your hand at bola canaria, a game very similar to pétanque in France. The aim is to get close to the target, the boliche or the mingue. You can also watch Canarian wrestling, which is often performed on Saturdays and Sundays in season. Or the Canarian stick game, which is also the subject of public demonstrations.
To be booked
All surfing, scuba diving and other courses must be booked in advance. Like all supervised activities. All the more so if you wish to be assisted by a French-speaking teacher.
