Theaters Brittany

The history of the TNB began in 1949. Formerly the Centre Dramatique de l'Ouest and the Maison de la Culture, the two structures merged to become this major theater venue with a fine national reputation. Directed by Arthur Nauzyciel, the TNB is a Centre Européen de Création Théâtrale et Chorégraphique, with a cinema and a École Supérieure d'Art Dramatique. The director is surrounded by some twenty associate artists, including Julie Duclos, Vincent Macaigne, Keren Ann and Mohamed El Khatib, all of whom contribute to the richness of the programming, which has nothing to envy the major Parisian theaters. Festivals are also on offer, as are encounters, performances and concerts.

It has opened its doors since 9 April 2003, 60 years after the destruction of the old theatre. The site accommodates up to 950 people. Led by Josette Joubier, here are the outlines of his artistic project: proposing multidisciplinary programming with a place of choice for dance; make available artistic teams, time and space to promote the phases of work and creation (thanks to the rehearsal studio) and raise awareness among the public at the shows, especially the young public. Meetings with schools, universities and associations are organized. The Grand Theatre aims to host all forms of theatre, music, dance, opera, and to open up to the programming of new, local or international companies. At the Saint-Malo theaters the red velvet curtains open on any style of show as long as it is of quality: dance, opera, classical or contemporary theater, humor... Lovers of Shakespeare or want to laugh with Olivier de Benoist, there is something for all tastes. From a performance of the Kiev City Ballet, through Carmen, Les Promesses de l'aube after Romain Gary and with Stephane Freiss, Les lettres à Nour with Robin Renucci or a show by Fabrice Luchini, you will be touched, surprised and above all enthused.

The Maison du Théâtre is a place of theater practice, offering a variety of training and entertainment. In addition to the development of amateur theater practice and theater creation in the region, the establishment is indeed a place to broadcast contemporary theater. In particular, it focuses on young, high-quality shows. The hotel welcomes spectators in two rooms: the largest is the Stella, with nearly 300 seats; Studio René Lafite and its 120 places, also creative room, lend itself to more intimate representations. Small and large will be amazed by live shows and the link that seems to be created with actors, who come to meet the audience after performances…

In the heart of Parc Saint-Cyr, MJC La Paillette brings theatrical practice to life in all its diversity. Alongside the Vilaine River, the former La Lavoir building is the heart of a variety of artistic practices, a meeting place for local residents, professionals and volunteers. The newly-built theater, with its glass roof, welcomes companies from all over France, with some 50 shows every year. The Les Envolées festival rounds off the season. For a month, more than 600 amateur artists from our practical workshops perform here.

This Brest-native theatre company, created in 1994 consists lovers and citizens. Very committed, the company works on a repertoire contemporary, social, political, furious and "red wine pâté-", as they like to worth it. Fifteen members, creative lovers and professionals (actors, musicians, sculptors, graphic designers, lighting engineers, etc.) work collectively within the company. The texts them are often taken from contemporary great playwrights like Bertolt Brecht, Fernando Arrabal or Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

The CDDB (Centre Dramatique de Bretagne) is a place of creation led by the director Eric Vigner. The creations made in Lorient go on tour in France and abroad. Programming integrates other forms of live entertainment. From September to June, awareness-raising, training and free visits to the theatre for all cluster applications.

The Scénith offers performances all year round, as well as dramatic expression workshops, and welcomes artists in residence as part of projects conducted in collaboration with schools and Maison de Quartier.

Now run by the Joli Collectif, who moved from the Théâtre de Poche d'Hédé-Bazouges to Saint-Jacques de La Lande, l'Aire Libre is a venue firmly rooted in its local area. Theater, music, dance, workshops, exhibitions... the multi-disciplinary program highlights hybrid, immersive forms that can't be seen anywhere else. Three highlights punctuate the season: the first focuses on living together, the second on youth, and the last on the international scene. The bar and bistro-theater are the perfect places to meet and exchange ideas with the artists. A place to discover and be surprised.

Housed in a former ^12th-century church, the Théâtre du Vieux Saint-Etienne is one of those places that offers great freedom of artistic expression. A creative and performance venue for local theater, circus arts and slam poetry companies, the Théâtre du Vieux Saint-Etienne offers shows for all audiences, with programming initiated by companies and events such as Ay-Roop (circus arts) and the Maintenant festival. Associated with the Mythos, Maintenant and Stunfest festivals, the stage offers many moments of grace and remarkable performances.

The Dérézo company was born 15 years ago from the meeting between artists and technicians, most of whom were trained at the ENSATT (Ecole de la rue Blanche). Established in Brest since 2000, it is distinguished by its desire to bring authors, artists, visual artists, sound and light technicians to the same level of creation. The Dérézo company now forms a collective, under the artistic direction of director Charlie Windelschmidt. With numerous creations already to their credit, the members of the company also focus on raising awareness of theatre and street arts. They've reclaimed an old church to make it their bastion of creation.

Ideal to spend a good moment, the theater of Lorient proposes you a beautiful programming throughout the year: pure theater, dance, circus, music and many other creations... To buy your tickets, go directly to the theater's ticket office or buy them on the Internet. There are several subscriptions to satisfy everyone. The plus: if you wish to have dinner before the show, the restaurant Le Belvédère located next to the theater opens its doors earlier on the evenings of the show (reservation required).

In this converted former service station, La Station-Théâtre in La Mézière offers exciting shows. This small 50-seat venue creates an intimate setting for shows that are often new to the region. The program is eclectic, mixing theater, poetry and other forms of artistic expression. Far from the big theaters, this alternative venue offers the chance to discover original and daring works in a warm and friendly setting. The proximity between artists and audience creates a unique bond. A veritable cultural nugget on the outskirts of Rennes, La Station-Théâtre is well worth a visit.
