Bars and clubs are open very late at night, especially in Kingston, the kingdom of reggae and dancehall. Sound systems in the open countryside also stay open late. Jamaica is a party country! Negril, on the other hand, is a tourist area where a few neon nightclubs stay open late, but most of the concerts end early, as they are aimed at a tourist audience.
Night transport
It's highly recommended to use a serious cab company (or an Uber in Kingston) at night to get around Jamaica, especially in the capital, which is dangerous at night. Hotels will usually arrange a cab for you.
Age restrictions
Consumption of alcohol in discotheques and concert bars is permitted from the age of 18.
What's very local
Sound systems are springing up all over the place in villages and neighborhoods - you just have to roll down your window to find them! Speakers are usually fixed to the roof of a car, or placed on the ground.
Smokers
You can smoke anywhere in Jamaica in bars and clubs, especially ganja joints, as tobacco cigarettes are frowned upon.
