For experienced divers, the wreck of the Sanko Harvest is located in the Recherche Archipelago. Coming from Florida, this cargo ship carrying phosphate and oil bound for Esperance sank in 1991 while trying to take a shortcut. An oil spill ensued, much of which was cleaned up by volunteers shoveling oil from the white sands of the area's beaches. Opened in 2018, Optus stadium is primarily dedicated to the Australian Football League, the national sport that is a cousin of Gaelic soccer. The stadium made a splash in 2021 by hosting the AFL final, traditionally played in then-confined Melbourne. Magnetic Island Sea Kayak offers a half-day sea kayak tour of the island. Departures are daily in the morning between 8:30 and 10:30 am.
