Built in 1862, the Great Western Hotel is one of Queensland's oldest pubs and a must for soaking up the bush atmosphere. It houses a motel, steakhouse restaurant and poker room. Enjoy fresh seafood, burgers and schnitzels. Occasional rodeos and barbecues are held in the large covered arena at the rear of the building (check the website for details), and the festivities ensure a great atmosphere. You may also arrive on the evening of a country concert.

A Darwin institution. The open-air cinema is located in a wonderful setting at the seaside and at the foot of the cliffs housing the NT parliament. Many foreign art house films, including some French, are shown under the stars. Buy the tickets on the website to be sure to have a place. Free seating, so it is advisable to arrive early to reserve a good deckchair. You can then enjoy the bar or a quick dinner. Treat yourself to a historical immersion in Australia's oldest surviving theater! Located near the harbor, Hobart's Theatre Royal was built by convicts between 1834 and 1837. Many international performers have performed here - from the famous French mime and actor Marcel Marceau to the multiple Oscar-winning American actor Laurence Olivier. The latter even came in person to protest the demolition of the theater in 1940. It still hosts plays, musicals and ballets today.

CAPITOL THEATRE

Theater

This old art deco theater was built in 1892-1893 as the New Belmore Markets with, as a characteristic of the time, the inclusion of circus, theater and fairground shows. Due to the decline in attendance over time for these shows of all kinds, the building was transformed in 1913 into a racetrack. It became a permanent theater in 1927. Nowadays, its program includes great musical shows as well as famous artists: it is the little Australian Moulin Rouge!

THE SHIP THAT NEVER WAS

Concert halls

It is the longest running play in Australia with 25 years of performances. It is the true story of an incredible escape, an extraordinary journey and an intriguing twist in history. It all begins in January 1834, when the Frederick, the last ship built at the Sarah Island prison in Macquarie Harbour, is about to sail for the new prison in Port Arthur. The actors are very funny and involve the audience. Good English preferred to understand the humor of the play.

RECHABITE - NORTHBRIDGE

Cabaret and Revue

Two bars with great cocktails, including one on the roof, a Korean-influenced restaurant with good dumplings and a performance hall, the Rechabite is an institution in its own right. Built by a religious temperance movement opposed to alcohol consumption, with the aim of creating a convivial environment where people could get together, it is now a temple to entertainment! Numerous concerts, often offbeat burlesque shows and the Perth Fringe Festival, a comedy festival held in January and February, are held here.

BELGRAVE CINEMA

Cinema

The Belgrave cinema is THE cinema in Armidale. It is also one of the main entertainment places of the city. This small cinema which looks like an art house cinema has only the appearance of one, because it shows essentially blockbusters intended for all audiences. Two rooms are available and allow the daily projection of 4 or 5 different films. At the entrance of the establishment, a plaque reminds us that it exists thanks to the Friends of the Cinema, who created the place after the closing of the Capitol Theater, in 1983.

Installed in an old chapel (1885) whose general architecture has remained intact despite the change of business, one can attend the projection of recent films in a most original decor. In terms of equipment, the place sometimes offers 3D, Digital and Dolby 7.1 projections. It offers few films and few screenings, but it's already something!
