Read moreFounded in 1993, this women's crafts center aims to bring this ancient Ottoman village back to life, while providing a source of income for local women. Here, they are taught traditional craft techniques such as ceramics, weaving and paper-making. Their creations can be purchased on site. Lunch is also available, but please book in advance. The women will cook you a traditional meal for a small fee.
BANI HAMIDA WEAVING CENTRE
Read moreThis cooperative, located on the road between the fortress of Macheronte and the village of Mukawir, is a weaving centre run by the Bani Hamida Bedouin community. Created in 1985 by a few Bedouin women, it allows women to ensure a complementary income for their families, while perpetuating this craft tradition. Today, nearly 1,600 women from the region, spread over 13 villages, work for the cooperative and weave superb carpets, bags and cushions.
