GERARD ICE CREAM

Glacier
5/5
1 review

Gerard Ice Cream is a popular chain in Amman with no less than 6 locations across the city. It concocts good sorbets, with no added fat or dairy products, and ice creams with no added sugar. You can refresh your palate with classic flavours like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon or more original ones like Nutella, Snickers (caramel and peanut) or speculoos (Lotus). Gérard has a sense of humour, as he recommends that you do not tap on his windows, as this will scare the ice cream away.

This pastry shop is very popular among Jordanians and has several locations in town. It must be said that the shop has existed since 1951. It was founded by Al-Haj Mahmoud Habibah, who came to find refuge from Jerusalem in 1948. The specialty of the house is the knafeh, a pastry made of brick sheets, melted cheese and pistachio chips, sprinkled with sugar syrup. It is very sweet, very good and a must try during a stay in Jordan. You can also buy boxes of pastries to take home.

Founded in 1860 in Jerusalem, this pastry shop has been so successful that it has opened several stores in the Arab world. Its baklava and other treats dripping with molasses or honey are simply delicious. The brightly lit, surgically clean shops are somewhat intimidating, but the staff will be happy to advise you. There too, you'll find pretty iron assortment boxes to slip into your suitcase to extend your trip or to offer as a souvenir. The store is also present at the airport

THE BISCUIT HOUSE

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream

Based on the same principle as the neighboring Soap House, the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature is showcasing the biscuit-making skills of local women. The project is primarily designed to help women on low incomes or in precarious situations. The workshop is housed in the futuristic - and very successful - RSCN building. Don't hesitate to pay them a visit and share their experience in good spirits. Buying a few cookies is a great way to fill up when you're out and about.

AL KIT & AL KAT SWEET

Patisserie

This traditional oriental pastry shop is one of the most famous in the city. It's a bit out of the way, but if you like Jordanian sweets, you won't be disappointed! The pastries are made daily and are topped with sugar syrup flavoured with orange or rose. Be sure to try the walnut and pistachio mahmouls. If you come to Irbid at the end of your stay, don't hesitate to fill up on these pastries, which can be kept for a few days. The challenge will be not to have eaten them all before leaving.
