Read moreFrom the 16th to the 19th century, Banská Štiavnica developed a revolutionary system: a hydrographic network of 60 artificial lakes dug to pump water from mines and run machinery. Today, this system is a World Heritage Site and 23 lakes are frequented by tourists in summer for walks and swimming. The lake Počúvadlo is the largest of them. A beautiful hike links the lake Počúvadlo to Mount Sitno for 3 km, about 2 hours of walking.

Read moreThe Demänovská Ice Cave is one of the oldest known caves in Europe. This cave is particularly remarkable for its surreal ice formations that were formed as a result of a landslide about five hundred years ago. The air cooled and the waterfalls and lakes gradually froze. The visit lasts about 45 minutes for a circuit of 650 meters. Bring a good sweater, the temperature constantly oscillates between 0 °C and 3 °C.
ZOO AND DINOSAUR PARK

Opened in May 1960, the park covers an area of 96 hectares, 35 of which are open to the public. It is home to 174 species and 1,396 animals. The zoo takes in injured animals in its rehabilitation zone. The dinosaur park features life-size reconstructions of these prehistoric lizards.

The facades are often Renaissance style with their pignons and their ornamentations sometimes embellished with sgraffites. The Klobušický Palace is particularly beautiful with its facade to the rich baroque decor with stucco stucco. The square is very crowded with the church of St. Nicholas in its centre, the evangelical temple typical of the Renaissance, the Evangelical College and the old municipal school. Behind the college you cannot miss the group of sculptures of the Immaculate High in 1738 thanks for the end of the plague. Notice in the park, in the centre of the square, the fountain of Neptune, offered by the Jews in 1840 to thank the city for welcoming them. South of the square is the Greek Catholic church Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

Read moreThe central square of Levoča has the gracieusement oblong form of the cities of Slovakia. Its particularity lies in the beauty and the number of the bourgeois houses () that surround it as well as the two beautiful churches with three naves and the city hall which adorn it in its centre. Attention must be paid to the Maison house at No. 7 (Thurzov Dom), at the restored façade in 1904 with neo-Renaissance sgraffites. At No. 44, the house Krupek (Krupekov Dom) has authentically Renaissance sgraffites dating from the th century. The house Hain (Hainov Dom) at No. 41 was the seat of Evangelical Lyceum. In 1844, a group of 13 pupils protesting against the laws in place and teaching in Hungarian decided to flee Bratislava to study in Levoča. This is where they sang for the first time the revolutionary song Nad Tatrou sa Blýska, which will become the Slovak national anthem. This house is home to the historic museum of Spiš. The most beautiful of the houses is probably the house Mariássy (Mariássyho dom) at No. 43 with its inner courtyard to the delicately sculpted arcades. It is now the Stela hotel where you can enter by requesting permission. At the location of house No. 20 was the atelier of master Pavol, a party in smoke. Today this house houses a museum dedicated to it.
CALVARY (KALVÁRIA)
Read moreLocated in the western part of the city, behind the botanical garden on the hill above Prešov, this Baroque Way of the Cross dates back to the 18th century. It has 14 stages (14 chapels), the fourth is the most famous, built in 1765 according to a sample from the Sacri Gradus of Rome. In the past, it was considered the second most beautiful calvary on the territory of Hungary (after the Banská Štiavnica calvary). This Way of the Cross was built by the Jesuits during the Counter-Reformation at the initiative of the guild of the dying Christ.

ČERVENÝ KAMEŇ CASTLE (HRAD ČERVENÝ KAMEŇ)
Read moreBuilt during the 13th century, Červený Kameň Castle was an integral part of the system of fortifications that protected the western part of the Kingdom of Hungary. In 1535, the castle came into the possession of the Fugger family, who transformed it to serve their mining operation. Gigantic cellars were built to store the ore. The role of the castle remains essentially defensive, before a new transformation carried out by the noble family of Palffy, which makes it a Renaissance palace at the end of the 16th century. In the courtyard is built a palace with two wings, while the interiors are completely restored: vaults decorated with stucco ornaments and frescoes with mythological motifs. The renovation of the castle was completed with magnificent baroque gardens. In 1945, the castle became a national monument. In its interiors there is a unique exhibition reflecting the development of the culture of the nobility and the bourgeoisie - here you can find beautiful aristocratic salons, luxurious rooms, but also a period dining room and a beautiful knights' hall. The tour also shows the former underground spaces and the huge storage cellars. The north bastion also hosts interesting seasonal exhibitions that complement and enrich the permanent exhibitions of the castle. Červený Kameň offers several types of guided tours, but some parts of it are accessible without a guide.
MICHALSKÁ BRÁNA (MICHALSKÁ BRÁNA DOOR)

The statue of Saint Michael slaying the dragon was added to its summit. On both sides of the bridge are the statues of the Archangel St. Michael and St. John Nicomedes. In the tower once lived a watchman. It now houses the Museum of Weapons and Fortifications. Under the tower is now the 0 meridian.
GROTTE DE BRESTOVA (BRESTOVSKÁ JASKYŇA)

At the time of boarding, we can observe a bourgeois house in the rococo style of the main square, cotoyant the old chamber of mines in a Renaissance building, recognizable by its massive arcades. The guêt tower overlooking the city is Renaissance style. It was built in 1643 and was rebuilt in a baroque style following a fire. The façade of the old hospital contains a pediment with 3 baroque statues. It was opened in the th century by the Andrassý family. Between Saint-François-Xavier and Saint-Jean-Népomucène churches, a thread of shops facades dating from the end of the Middle Ages overlooks the street and reminds us how the city was the economic centre of the region.

HERĽANY GEYSER (GEJZÍR V HERĽANOCH)

The water gushes naturally from a depth of 450 metres to a height of 20 to 30 metres every 32 to 34 hours. In the middle of the small wooded park, decorated with wood carvings representing the local heritage, the geyser springs up for about 30 minutes. The Branisko massif has many interesting natural riches in the image of the nearby Méchant Hole cave. This whole territory belongs to Kamenná Baba's natural reserve, which also offers beautiful hikes reminiscent of those of the Slovak Paradise. This superb hike from Lipovce station is at the normal level. It leads into a 2 km long limestone canyon and offers you the possibility to climb ladders, to see waterfalls, a protected flora and fauna, as well as original geological natural formations.
VILLAGE OF VLKOLÍNEC
Read moreThe village is situated in the suburbs of the Industrielle industrial town, at the foot of the Great Mess and Mount Sidorovo, at 718 m above sea level. Vlkolinec is accessible by regular buses from Strbske Mikuláš and Ski, and by car via E 50 and by E 77. It is best to park its car at the bottom of the hiking and walk up to the village the parking garage of the village entrance is paid 1 €/hour.
This small village located 27 km west of Strbske Mikuláš was classified as UNESCO Heritage in 1993. It is the best preserved and most complete of traditional wooden houses throughout Central Europe in a completely preserved environment too. Its wooden houses dating from most of the th century have the unique style of the region, made from a wooden structure, clay walls and stone basement. In houses 16 and 17 there is an exhibition of life and habitat. The name of Vlkolinec has as its origin the obligation of its inhabitants in the Middle Ages to pose traps with wolf, vlk, in Slovak.
The village and the valley are starting points for 6 hiking and 2 mountain biking paths.
WATER MILL KOLÁROVO (VODNÝ MLYN KOLÁROVO)

THE BEAR GALLERY (MEDVEDIA ŠTÔLŇA)

STANIŠOV CAVE (STANIŠOVSKÁ JASKYŇA)
Read moreThe entrance is located on the northwestern slope of Smrekovice. It is not the best known cave in the country, but it is one of the oldest in the region. Discovered in 1720, it was formed by erosion and corrosion of an underground stream. In a beautiful valley, the visit is interesting even if the guides do not speak (or little) English. The temperature inside the cave is always stable, around 6°C, so bring a little wool, especially in summer.
