WINDMILL HILL

OXFORD ISLAND

The Oxford Island Discovery Centre is a good vantage point for an overview of Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the British Isles. The establishment is responsible for preserving the wild life of the forests and meadows, flora and fauna of the lake. It is held in a wooden building on the edge of the lake, with a coffee and an information and exposure centre on the ecosystem. From Kinnega Marina (even by car but a little further) it is possible to cruise on Lough Neagh.

STRUMBLE HEAD

Natural site to discover

Perched on a rocky promontory, it is one of the most powerful lighthouses in Britain. To the southwest of the lighthouse stretches a jagged rocky bay, an enormous jaw open to the sea. No beach here: the jagged rock falls abruptly into the sea. Walking on the cliffs promises splendid views. On the east side, following the coast, about 2 km from the lighthouse, we come across a cliff that is permanently home to seal families. Strumble Head is also a wonderful place to watch the sunset.

GLENOE WATERFALL

One of the very pretty and hidden waterfalls of the Antrim region, far from the tourists. From the car park it is accessible after only five minutes of walking. CRANNY FALLS

A nice walk along an old railway track. The setting is very picturesque, quiet and far from the crowd. We overlook Carnlough and its bay from the road. The walk takes place in a typically Irish environment, amidst green grass, brooms and sheep. Then, after half an hour's walk, we reach the waterfall, buried in the middle of lush vegetation. KING'S CAVE

Legend has it that Robert the Bruce took shelter in this cave before the Battle of Bannockburn and met the famous spider that encouraged him to continue his fight. He would have watched him fail six times, just as he had lost six times to the English. If the seventh was good for the spider, it would be good for him too. The spider succeeded: Robert the Bruce fought. Besides the legend, the cave is worth seeing for its beautiful surroundings. A 4.7 km marked trail leads to it between forests, panoramic views, moors and cliffs.

HEADLAND

On foot from Newquay town center, follow the coast along the natural byways of the South West Coast Path. You'll pass The Huer's Hut, a 14th-century white stone hut where a "crier" used to sound the alarm about approaching shoals of sardines. The view over Newquay's beaches is magnificent. Continue on to Headland and its belvedere. The scent of the plants and the fresh air along the walk are a real change of scenery. Come at the end of the day to enjoy an incredible sunset.
