Mud baths have been a tradition in Calistoga for about 100 years. At Golden Haven, you can experience it in a private treatment room. The mud is a mixture of clay, peat and warm mineral water, three ingredients known for their traditional health benefits. The treatment, which lasts one hour, is sovereign against stress, even more so if you add a 45-minute or even 75-minute massage session... And the program can be done as a couple!

Founded in 1892, these Russian and Turkish baths belong to a generation of public hygiene places that flourished on the Lower East Side when apartments were devoid of bathrooms. Nothing to do with the hyperactive atmosphere of the health clubs; here, laziness is a must, and everyone can stay as long as they want, while enjoying the facilities: the Finnish sauna, the Turkish bath (sweat room), the gym and, above all, the extraordinary Russian Steam Room, all in cement and equipped with a huge oven.

This hotel was one of the first establishments in the region to offer thermal treatments. We love its retro style and the kindness of the staff. The mud bath is a must and the massages are simply heavenly. Huge swimming pool, half-covered, so you can choose between sun and shade. Moreover, the restaurant is at the height. We recommend the green and red chili burritos, the honey roasted squash and the grilled fish tacos.

This excellent spa, part of the beautiful Stoweflake Mountain Resort, offers a wide variety of treatments, from the most traditional to the most inventive. In total, a good hundred treatments are offered, some of which are typical of the region: this is the case of the maple syrup massage, available for the body or face. Spa guests have access to the gym as well as the pools, whirlpool and sauna. The location is very pleasant and the service is excellent. The staff is also very competent.

By referring to ancient Rome, famous for its thermal baths, the Caesars Palace could not afford the best spa in the whole city. Through a corridor where a waterfall runs, you can reach the pool room where a dozen tanks with angular design are filled with mineral water at different temperatures. In showers, water jets come on both sides. Classic sauna and hammam are complemented by heated rooms with herbs. A tea lounge offers a relaxing area where you can relax on comfortable deckchairs. Furthermore, the spa features 51 beautifully arranged massage and thematic treatments.

This new spa on the northern tip of Governors Island is proof that every effort is being made to revitalize this long neglected island. The program includes saunas, steam rooms and massage rooms, all in a decor designed as a tribute to the Big Apple, whose towers can be seen through the windows. The panoramic views of the skyline from the heated outdoor pools contribute to the sense of well-being and exclusivity sought. The spa is currently under development and will soon be extended to the neighboring buildings.

Fancy a stroll? Head for Mission Beach - just south of Pacific Beach - which stretches for just over 3 km. And if you want to watch sea lions as the sun sets, head for La Jolla. Note that most of the city's beaches are equipped with beach volleyball nets and fire pits - the popular bonfires.
