Getting around by bus and coach Italy

Sassari: a dozen buses a day from 6:45 a. m. (from Alghero via Catalogna) at 8 p. m. Departures from Sassari from 7 a. m. 1 hour drive. Attention: On Sunday, there are far fewer departures.

Buses run to Galileo Galilei airport in one direction, and to Piazza dei Miracoli in the other direction, passing through the train station. Tickets cost €1.50 and can be purchased at tobacconists and newsagents, or via SMS. To get around Pisa by bus, the Autolinee Toscana (AT) buses are numerous and quite reliable. The ticket also costs 1,50 €, valid for 70 minutes. If you want to do as the Pisans do on weekends, you can easily reach the seaside resorts of Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia for 2.50 €.

Venice can be reached by bus from many European destinations and all of Italy. All buses stop at the bus station in Piazzale Roma, where you will find a tourist office annex and a luggage storage room. This is the ideal stop for those staying in San Polo or Santa Croce (and even further afield). In fact, the ferry terminals for the center are almost opposite the bus terminal. From there, at the end of your stay, you can also reach the Marco Polo airport by road.

From mid-April to the end of August, a shuttle busconnects the train station of Ravenna to Punta Marina and Marina di Ravenna, making a stop at all the seaside bagni. Runs every 30 minutes. This is an excellent solution to avoid road traffic, especially if you plan to go to Marina di Ravenna at the weekend. Courmayeur can easily be reached with the bus company "Flixbus" from Paris (from 15 €), Dijon (from 11 €) and Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (from 5 €) in France, but also from the Swiss cities of Geneva and Lausanne from 8 € and Berne from 12 €. There are daily connections between Piedmont, Lombardy and the Aosta Valley, and the company also provides connections to nearby ski resorts with over 200 vehicles.

A word of advice! It is better to use the Rapida bus (No. 131R) rather than the Ordinaria, as it is non-stop between Florence (via Luigi Alamanni, in front of Santa Maria Novella station) and Siena (piazza Antonio Gramsci), so faster (about 1 hour 15 minutes). The terminus, piazza Gramsci - via Federigo Tozzi, is located in the heart of Siena's city centre. Tickets can be purchased either at the ticket office (in the Lizza underground passage in Siena, in Santa Maria Novella station in Florence), or in advance online, or on board but with an additional charge.
